I know this is probably a bit boring for some, but it's been exciting for me to see my Kindergartener so happy about his plants growing. This week we have seen more true leaves appear on more plants, which means that they are happy. The plants are still very small so we have to pay close attention to how much we water them. Mikko and I had a good conversation about how too much water is just as dangerous as too little, and how we can tell if the plants need more watering or less.

We also had certain someone pick a couple of leaves off of a tomato, killing it. Dang elves.

Next

This is how our plants looked last week, on Wednesday Feb 8th. Only four containers didn't have anything growing in them. I'm giving them another week or so, it is still cold and the weather has been cloudy. Some of our dill kind of fell down so reseeding is in order.
We are trying a variety of tomatoes called "the mortgage lifter". So far they've been the most vigorous plants. Can't wait for summer!

Start

My son wanted to grow tomatoes from seed. We did it successfully last year, so I decided to give it ago. He loves tomatoes, and watching them grow from seed is sort of interesting. My husband wanted to add more things, so right now our urban farm includes tomatoes, yellow bell peppers, jalapenos, banana peppers, and several different kinds of herbs. I'm sure more will follow as the spring progresses.
