Today My friend Camille and I planted a few of the herbs in the back yard. A permanent home was given to the German chamomile, French thyme, all of the basil, the English lavender, and rosemary. The mint was planted in our window well so it has a good space to spread, but won't take over the whole world.
I also planted three yellow nasturtiums by the tomatoes. They are supposed to bring in more good pollinators. Eventually there will be more flowers around all the vegetables to attract good bugs to our farm.
A couple of weeks ago I planted some dahlias in my treasured pot that my children and three of my nieces decorated last year. They have really taken off wonderfully, and will look good when they bloom in the summer.
I also planted some marigolds and zinnias so that they'll be ready to go in the back yard later in May. I also planted a flower called tithonia. The picture looks pretty, but I have never grown it before. We'll see how it'll do in this climate. There's also more cilantro coming, hopefully the mysterious elves won't pick these off the pot.
So things are growing well, the kids are still excited about watching all the plants grow, and the God of Spring and all small urban farmers has been kind with the weather. Hopefully the warm spring and rain will continue.
